Privacy notice

This notice explains how figure skating competition results and the personal data related to them are processed and published on fs.lintuala.fi. The site publishes the results of club competitions: the result pages produced by the result software (entries, results, starting order and panel of judges), the judges' scores and schedules as PDF files and, for some competitions, a compiled competition protocol as a PDF file.

This notice covers competitions whose results are published at fs.lintuala.fi/results/. The competition list also includes competitions whose results are on the Finnish Figure Skating Association's site figureskatingresults.fi. The Association's privacy notice applies to those.

Results are published on behalf of the club organising the competition. The organiser decides what is published and is responsible for data protection. The result service provider provides the result service and publishes the results according to the organiser's instructions.

1. Controller and result service provider

The controller is the club organising each competition. The organiser and its contact details are shown in the competition list next to the competition. The organiser is also named in the competition announcement.

Because organisers and their contact persons vary from one competition to the next, you can also contact the result service about data protection matters. The result service will tell you the contact person of the organiser of the competition in question and forward requests to them.

The result service provider (processor) is Markus Lintuala, who provides the result service and publishes the results on fs.lintuala.fi on behalf of the organiser. Contact details: markus@lintuala.fi (the same address as the "Contact result service" link on the result site). The result service provider processes data on behalf of the organiser under the result service processing terms.

2. Why data is processed and on what basis

Data is processed to provide the competition's result service and to publish the results to participants, clubs and the public.

Results and names: legitimate interest (EU General Data Protection Regulation, Article 6(1)(f)). The organiser's legitimate interest is organising competitions and publishing competition results transparently, in line with established practice in the sport. That practice is based on the Finnish Figure Skating Association's rulebook (no. 27, 1.7.2026–30.6.2027). This interest has been weighed against the skaters' privacy, and children's data is protected as follows:

  • On the result pages, skaters are published under the name recorded in SuomiSport: single skaters and pairs with their full names, and synchronized skating teams with the team name.
  • For the Minit, Tintit and Tulokkaat categories, in accordance with the Finnish Figure Skating Association's rulebook (no. 27, sections 8.10, 8.11 and 11.11), only the placements and total scores of the top three are published. The other participants are listed in starting order. In other categories the organiser may limit publication, for example by using first names only. The same limits apply in the compiled protocol.
  • Dates of birth, ages and contact details are not published. Gender is not published as a separate item, but the category name (for example "Noviisit, tytöt", novice girls) shows which category the skater competes in.
  • Anyone can ask for their name to be removed (section 6).

Officials: legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)). The names and roles of the judges and technical officials are published because the composition of the panel is public under the sport's rules.

Podium photos and team presentation photos: consent (Article 6(1)(a)). A podium photo or a synchronized skating team presentation photo is published only if the person in it has a valid photography consent through their club. The organiser verifies the consent with the skater's club before publication, and the organiser also has the photographer's permission to publish the photo. For a minor, consent is given by a parent or guardian. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

The organiser informs skaters in the competition announcement that the results will be published and refers to this notice there.

The data is not used for automated decision-making or profiling.

3. What data is processed and where it comes from

ConcernsDataSource
Skaters and team membersName, club, category, name of the competing unit, starting orderThe Finnish Figure Skating Association's Taikkari system, where competing units submit their entries
SkatersDate of birth, gender and nationality in the result software, to determine the category and the competing unit. Date of birth and gender are not published. Nationality may appear in the Nation column of the result pages; in club competitions the column shows the skater's club.Taikkari
Skaters and teamsPlacement, scores, deductions and scores by judge, and whether the skater or team withdrew from the competition (without the reason)The competition's panel of judges and scoring
Medallists and synchronized skating teamsPodium photo and team presentation photoPhoto taken at the competition venue or supplied by the organiser
Competition officials (judges, technical officials)Name, role and nationalityThe organising club

The data is received through the entry process, not directly from the skater. Entering is a requirement for taking part in the competition, but publishing results under your name is not: you can object to your name being published (section 6).

4. Publication, recipients and where the data is held

The parts listed below are published for each competition. The result pages, the judges' scores and the schedules are produced with Swiss Timing's FS Manager result software, whose page templates cannot be changed. The compiled protocol is produced with a separate protocol tool.

PublicationContent
Competition home pageCategories, schedule and links to the result pages

ResultPlacement, name, club and scores
Starting Order / Detailed ClassificationStarting order, name, club and scores by segment
Panel of JudgesNames, roles and nationality of the judges and technical officials
Judges' scores (PDF)Judges' scores for each performance, by skater
Schedules and starting order (PDF)The competition schedule and, for each category, the starting order and skating times with names
Compiled protocol (PDF)Competition details and schedule and, for each category, a podium page (name, club and placement, podium photo), results, segment results, panel of judges and judges' scores. In synchronized skating, possibly team presentations. The file is in the competition's directory. A protocol is compiled for some competitions only.

Results are published openly on the internet at fs.lintuala.fi, so anyone can read them. The result pages may be found through search engines. The PDF files (judges' scores, schedules and the compiled protocol) are marked so that search engines do not include them in their results. The metadata of the compiled protocol contains only the competition name and the organising club, and metadata (such as location data) is removed from photos before publication.

Recipients and where the data is held. The published results are on a server of Zerodistance (ZD Communications Oy) in Finland. The compiled protocol and the judges' papers are produced in the figureskatingtools.com service, which runs on Microsoft Azure in the EU and sends e-mail from Mailgun's EU region. The limited access from the United States by its sub-processors is described in the service's own privacy notice. The result software runs on the result service provider's computer in Finland. At the organiser's request, results can also be sent to a live result service; it is then named next to the competition in the competition list.

The result pages show a cookie notice through which you can allow Google Analytics. If you allow it, information about your page view goes to Google (section 7). Otherwise the result pages, the competition list and this notice load all their files from fs.lintuala.fi.

5. How long data is kept

The published result pages and PDF files remain on the site on the organiser's instruction until the organiser asks for their removal or the site is closed. If the site is closed, the publications are handed over to the organiser or deleted on its instruction.

The protocol working data is deleted from the protocol tool under that tool's retention rules, at the latest 60 days after the competition was created in the tool. The organiser may ask for an extension. The result software's competition database is kept until the end of the competition season in question and is then destroyed.

An individual's data is removed on request (section 6).

6. Your rights and removal of data

You have the right to access the data concerning you, to have inaccurate data corrected or erased, to ask for processing to be restricted and to object to your name being published. If a podium photo or team presentation photo has been published on the basis of consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time. A parent or guardian can make a request on behalf of a minor.

Send your request to the organising club (section 1) or to the result service at markus@lintuala.fi, from where it is forwarded to the organiser. We reply within one month, or tell you within that time if we need longer. Every removal request is carried out, and you do not need to give a reason.

How removal is carried out. The name is removed from all of the competition's publications: the result pages, the judges' scores files and the compiled protocol. New versions of them are produced in which:

  • in the result list and on the judges' scores pages, your name and club are replaced with the text "Nimi poistettu pyynnöstä" (name removed on request). The placement and scores stay in place so that the other skaters' results remain correct.
  • the podium photo and the names associated with it are removed entirely.
  • the name is also removed from the file's text layer and metadata, not merely covered up.

The new versions replace the old ones at the same addresses. After the removal we ask search engines to refresh their cached copies. We cannot remove copies downloaded before the removal or web archive snapshots.

7. Cookies and visitor tracking

The result pages show a cookie notice that is part of the FS Manager result software's page template and cannot be removed. The notice is in English and refers to the International Skating Union's (ISU) privacy policy. It works as follows:

  • When you make a choice, the notice stores it in your browser in a cookie named cconsent. The cookie is kept for one year.
  • If you choose "YES" or allow analytical cookies in the settings, the page loads the Google Analytics script from Google. The script stores cookies in your browser (_ga, _gid) and sends Google information about the page view. The script and its identifier come with the result software's page template.
  • If you choose "NO" or make no choice, Google Analytics is not loaded and its cookies are not stored.

The competition list and this notice use no cookies. If any other visitor tracking is introduced on the site, this notice will be updated before that happens.

The site maintainer does not collect or keep log data. The site's hosting provider Zerodistance may record technical server log data (such as IP address and time) under its own policy, to keep the service running and secure.

8. Right to lodge a complaint

If you believe your data has been processed in breach of data protection law, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi). We hope you will contact the organising club first so that the matter can be put right quickly.

9. Updates to this notice
